Invitation to Democracy in Action: Zero Corruption Conference

We would like to invite you to the international high-level conference seeking solutions on hybrid threats to democracy, specifically disinformation, strategic corruption and lawfare. The two-day marathon will be held in a hybrid format in Kyiv on June 7-8, 2021.

Registration for online participation is now open at Tweet and follow Conference updates with #DIA_ZCC.

Democracy cannot be taken for granted and needs active protection. It has to adapt to the new global challenges. Kleptocratic authoritarian regimes aim to erode established democracies from the inside by delegitimizing democratic values, subverting the democratic transition of power, breaking unity and trust in the alliances, or intoxicating their economies with dirty money.

Democracy in action means collective actions of civil society and governments from both well established and transition democracies.

Democracy in action foresees strong leadership and hard decisions to respond effectively to authoritarian regimes ruled by kleptocratic elites.

Democracy in action is learning from each other and seeking innovations, which reflect core values – dignity, freedom, fair competition, and rule of law.

We are inviting you to join the Democracy in Action forum in Ukraine, a country where hybrid threats to democracy are highly visible and innovative solutions are being tested. In Ukraine, defending democracy means protecting the country from Kremlin military and hybrid aggression exercised through disinformation, strategic corruption, and lawfare.

This year Democracy in Action Zero Corruption conference will cover the following topics:

  • Leadership in times of restoring the power of democracy: conversation of the heads of states

  • Regional trendsetters of democracy – successful transformations of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as democratic model for the region

  • Ukraine and Georgia in NATO 2030: the Alliance’s open-door policy as a tool for enhancing democracy and good governance

  • Personal sanctions as an effective response of the West to human rights abuses and strategic corruption

  • Fair justice in transitional democracies: bold solutions to modern threats

  • Joint response to weaponization of corruption

  • International reaction to disinformation

  • Democratic resilience through elections: prospects and challenges and others.

Among the distinguished speakers who confirmed their participation are President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Moldova Maia Sandu, Vice President of the European Commission Věra Jourová, US Senator Chris Coons, Deputy Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Katarína Mathernová, Member of the European Parliament Andrius Kubilius, President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, Director of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine Artem Sytnyk, and others.

The event will be of interest for decision-makers, diplomats, investigative journalists, civil society activists, experts, and students of public administration.
